Abstract

Agricultural intensification in developing regions has led to excessive pesticide use and improper fertilizer application, causing significant ecological contamination. The present study suggests a novel fuzzy logic-based decision support framework to optimize pesticide spraying and nanomanure application in Chas Anchal, Bokaro district, Jharkhand, India. The framework integrates multiple environmental parameters, including soil contamination levels, water quality indices, crop health indicators, and weather conditions through fuzzy inference systems. Using Mamdani-type fuzzy logic with triangular and trapezoidal membership functions, the system generates optimized application schedules that minimize ecological damage while maintaining agricultural productivity. Field data collected from 45 agricultural sites during 2023-2024 were analyzed using MATLAB Fuzzy Logic Toolbox. The proposed framework reduced pesticide usage by 34% and minimized soil heavy metal accumulation by 28% compared to conventional practices. Statistical validation using root mean square error (RMSE = 0.087) and correlation coefficient (r = 0.91) confirmed the model's reliability. This research demonstrates that fuzzy logic systems can effectively balance agricultural productivity with environmental sustainability in resource-constrained settings.
